WEEK 1

Find out the answers to the group’s top questions from week 1. We covered some course material and some Qs that were outside of the course as well. I’ve put the time stamps of the Qs below for you as well, in case you want to go to jump ahead to something specific:

2:47 JENNIFER A.: So i noticed that when i press record, it doesn’t *really* start when i press record. i would reply my video, and NOT hear my hello/beginning. do you normallly pause? i’m recording on my smart phone. droid.

5:42 MONIQUE: I’ve got one: How to stop saying “um” all the time. How can I break that habit?

19:11 MONIQUE: What’s a good rule of thumb as to where the camera or smartphone lens should be in relation to my eyeline? Basically, should it be dead on even, slightly above, slight below?

22:53 JENNIFER A.: This may be a question for down the road … buuuuttt how does one press stop and make that look naturally whilst using laptop or camera camera? or is it a matter of just one stops speaking/wave goobye, and then one edits out your moving to press stop?

29:55 MONIQUE: This also may come up later in the course, but about how much should be included in a talking head video shot? Meaning face, head and shoulders, torso, full length ? Does it even matter?

34:52 CHERICE: Tech dilemma’s with her editing software and camera choice.

43:11 LARISSA: Please list a camera that will make me look beautiful!

59:43 FROM ME: Your (video) Double Dog Dare. Check it out!

WEEK 2

04:33 LARISSA – Is there any makeup that you recommend? Like brands? Like ones that don’t reflect funny light.

25:17 LARISSA– Do you have voice exercises or things to practice to sound better on video?

35:05 JANETTE – Just getting in line with my Q: help me brainstorm b-roll for my photo shoot!

1:10:07 STEPHANIE – Do you have any theatre school tips for script memorization? I prefer to be unscripted, but for some things having an actual script is handy. I tried a teleprompter app and the eye tracking drove me crazy since it goes at a steady speed.

1:20:20 STEPHANIE – Will we be going over storyboarding in the course?

1:25:27 LARISSA– This is maybe for later or in the resources – where do you recommend getting free music to later bring in for intro or outro?

1:00:08 JENNIFER– Whenever I have tried to video from my laptop, I notice that my head looks tilted. Jen-problem? Just practice?? I had no clue I sat or spoke with crooked head. egads!

WEEK 3

DIVE ON IN:

08:25 – Will there be an advanced course later this year?

10:23 – How much access will we have to you after the bonus material is available in case we have questions? It looks like there is a LOT of material available.

15:18  – If you we don’t have fears about the videos themselves is there any way we can get early access to the technical stuff? I wanted to improve my existing videos that have been created for my course.

18:34 – The REAL yes vs. the PRETEND yes in goal achievement.

25:24 – Productive vs. Unproductive procrastination in the learning curve.

WEEK 4

04:44 CHERICE – In addition to creating a training course I also intend to create little “mini-commercials” for my downloadable instructional materials. I’ll put these short videos up on my WordPress site but am a bit concerned about bogging down the site, videos not loading quickly enough, etc. First, what do I need to know about hosting public videos on my own site? (I basically know nothing at this point.) Second, do you have any great ideas for making informative, engaging commercials that don’t feel like commercials? I’m thinking they’ll be about 30 seconds each. The audience needs to know what the product is,

21:24 EVA – I have a question. I am behind with the modules so I dont know if this has been covered. But I would very much like to know what recommendations you have for a teleprompter solution. I guess there are times when I can be spontaneous but also a lot of times when I will need the support of a script. I use Mac and Ipad if that is an issue. What inexpensive but still good solutions do you suggest? Pros and cons of them?

33:54 JENNIFER C. – Since you’ve seen my YouTube videos, what would be my next step to uplevel them a notch. What would be my next best step? Suggestions?
